WODS will soon be starting audition workshops and rehearsals for our next production – “Me and My Girl” – to be staged at the Swan Theatre from 16th to 20th April 2024.
WODS will be delighted to welcome you to Hareford Hall in Hampshire, the setting for this exuberant and fun-filled 1930s’ musical comedy, with dialogue rewritten by Stephen Fry for a smash hit West End/Broadway production in 1985.
Bill Snibson, a cockney market trader, is revealed somewhat implausibly to be the new Earl of Hareford, much to the amazement and horror of his newly-discovered aristocratic relations! They quickly attempt to educate Bill in the ways of the gentry and to separate him from his cockney girlfriend Sally with chaotic results of the most comical kind.
With a host of hilarious characters and witty one-liners, the show includes a variety of musical numbers and feel-good songs reminiscent of the music hall era including ‘Leaning on a Lamppost’, ‘The Sun Has Got His Hat On’, the title number 'Me and My Girl', and not forgetting ‘The Lambeth Walk’ with its pearly kings and queens, which became world famous and gave its name to a film version of the show.
The 1980s revival was dubbed ‘the happiest show in town’ and this new production from WODS is certainly guaranteed to get you humming the tunes, tapping your feet and send you home with a smile on your face.
If you would like to be involved with this production in any way, please contact our Membership Secretary (see contact details below). WODS primarily rehearse on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from 7.30pm to 10pm at the Society’s own rehearsal hall – St. Mary’s Hall, Northfield Street, Worcester, WR1 1NS.
