Flash, Bang, Wallop! WODS will soon be starting audition workshops and rehearsals for our next production – a re-working of a classic musical by the writing team behind the stage version of Mary Poppins – “Kipps – The New Half A Sixpence Musical”. Arthur Kipps is an orphan, and an over-worked draper’s assistant. He’s charming but ordinary, but dreams of a better more fulfilling world. When he unexpectedly inherits a fortune that propels him into high society it confuses everything he thought he knew about life. With the help of his childhood companion and not-quite girlfriend Ann, and his friends, Arthur learns that if you want to have the chance of living the right life, you need to make the right choices. This new version of Half A Sixpence, which returns to the HG Wells semi-autobiographical novel, “Kipps”, in order to reinvent the musical for the modern age, has a stellar creative team and reunites bookwriter Julian Fellowes with George Stiles and Anthony Drewe to create the smash-hit stage adaptation. Julian Fellowes’ masterful adaptation returns the musical to its literary roots, in a timeless and contemporary way, and Stiles and Drewe’s brilliantly infectious new score harnesses the David Heneker classics with a joyous verve.

If you would like to be involved with this production in any way, please contact our Membership Secretary (see contact details below). We primarily rehearse on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, usually between 7.30pm and 10pm at the Society’s own rehearsal hall – St. Mary’s Hall, Northfield Street, Worcester, WR1 1NS.

The audition workshops for “Kipps” will be from 7.30pm on 22nd, 23rd, 29th and 30th October, and auditions will be held on Sunday 3rd November 2019 from 2pm onwards. We look forward to meeting you, and you can be sure of a warm welcome, and even a cup of tea or coffee! If you’re not interested in performing on stage but would like to join the Society in another capacity such as backstage, wardrobe, publicity or anything else that would contribute towards our productions then we’d also be very keen to hear from you.
